Chapter Five

Gray

The French doors at the back of the family room lead into the private gardens which have been closed off from the guests. This is where Alex left, so this is where I begin my search for him.

Alex must be frantic by now—he always worries when he sees me with Melissa. Generally there is a strop of some kind, ending with him flirting with someone else, or him acting out like the child he is to get my attention. Tonight, he's just left though, and that's something he wouldn’t usually do. After something like this, he would be all over some woman on the dance floor, but then he does have the plug and cock cage on tonight. Perhaps that’s holding him back.

These gardens are Melissa’s and she spends most of her free time out here with the gardener. They have more in common than I could ever hope to have with her and they spend all their time planning the intricate flower beds and water features here. It’s not a place I often come to because I feel like I am invading her little sanctuary. I pause when I catch sight of Alex. He’s kneeling quietly in a private area of the lawn surrounded by darkness and the scent of jasmine.

“Alexander, I don’t remember giving you permission to leave the house. I believe I told you to be in the family room.”

“I was.” Alex’s quiet voice puts me on edge immediately. “You weren’t there.”

“You're late constantly.”

“But you're not.”

I'm beside him, stroking his ebony waves. “I was only upstairs. I was with the children. I am allowed to spend time with them, Alex.”

“You were with her.”

A long, heavy sigh escapes my lips and I tug his head back so he's facing me standing behind him. “You're mine.”

“You said you loved her. I thought it had changed from love.”

I release his hair and slap him hard across the face, making him fall to the grass at my feet. “How dare you listen in to my conversations without me knowing it. You don’t have that right.”

“I know.” Alex is holding his cheek. His lip is bleeding but I'm too angry to care.

“I didn’t lie. I love her. I always have done. But I'm not in love with her, there’s a difference. You know this. It won't change, Alex. You love Adrianna.”

“Is how I feel for Adrianna how you feel for Melissa?”

Alex looks shocked and that fucking hurts because I know Alex adores Adrianna. He feels much more for her than I could ever do for my wife. The jealousy I have running through me makes me pale with rage and I'm quickly grabbing him by the lapels and launching him to his feet.

“Please… Gray…”

Alex struggles against me, his feet inches from the floor, but I ignore him and throw him against the wall where no one can spy on us. He's pressed up against the cold stone and I have his wrists in my hands, lifting them above his head and stretching his lean body until he's taut as a bow.
